Department of State Cafeteria in Washington DC

Jim Chapman, project manager for the Department of State provided us with the opportunity to create a new, pleasant, and functional space for employees to take lunch breaks at. With the specifics, accessories, details, and the many design features, this project was completed in 7 months. Although it was our most challenging and largest project so far, we were thankful for the opportunity and experience that this project and its many aspects and details allowed us.

Meany Condo Renovation

Diane Gordy of DGI Design Group (301-229-9500) designed a complete renovation of this Arlington, Virginia three bedroom condo. Both bathrooms were remodeled; one featuring a soaking tub, while the other offering a walk in shower. Granite vanity tops offer style, beauty, and durability in both bathrooms.

In order to design a more contemporary feel in the kitchen, low voltage track lighting was installed. Serving as lighting that can accent an object or even offer direct lighting for a kitchen task, low voltage track lighting offers versatility and style. Tile flooring embellished the kitchen, while also offering durability. Flush solid core doors, which are great for sound dampening and insulating purposes, were installed. New carpeting was installed throughout the condo, and large crown molding and wooden baseboards added the finishing touches to the renovation.

Gularson Addition

John Shermer, (architect, 301-788-5152), designed this two level expansion. In order to prepare for the two level addition, existing walls on both levels were removed and new support beams were installed. The first level expansion of 8’ X 20’ allowed for a larger kitchen area. In the existing kitchen area, an island complete with a sink was installed. New cupboards were also installed to offer additional storage. The wall between the dining room and kitchen was redesigned to offer additional counter space, new pantry cabinets, and a wine cooler. A special area was created for the children to do homework or for desktop space. We installed recessed lighting to allow more than enough illumination on the counter spaces, island, and entire kitchen area. Hardwood floors and granite countertops completed the kitchen. The 6’ X 20’ second level bedroom expansion included a new, full bathroom complete with a soaking tub. A new, oversized walk in closet was also included in the expansion. To further emphasize the open feeling of the dining room and new kitchen expansion, we enlarged the openings to the existing sun rooms.

Belcher Country Porch

John Shermer, (architect, 301-788-5152) designed this country themed porch. Recently, the owner had updated the home by installing new windows, siding, and a roof. The owner wanted a porch to wrap around three sides of the home. We installed the porch floor using low maintenance GEO-DECK vinyl composite materials, which never have to be stained or painted. We added a porch roof, complete with overhead lighting for evenings spent outside. We took special care to match the porch and roof to existing features of the house. After the country themed porch was complete, the owner installed a stone patio for grilling and outdoor picnics. The owner also completed the overall look with a stone pathway leading from the porch to the driveway.

Charles Schwartz & Sons/ Mazza Gallery in Washington, DC

This design build project in 2003 allowed us to design and install not only the inside merchandise area, but also the store front. We designed and installed interior finishes and utilities to add function for shopping purposes and style to highlight the jewelry and products. We also designed and installed a dramatic store front appearance to attract customers’ attention.

NAFTC Training Facility in Arlington, Virginia

The NAFTC Training facility wanted to create and install a place for the employees to stay dry during disagreeable weather conditions. The powder coated frame allowed for a pre-engineered structure. Tempered glass all around provides protection from the wind and rain. A standing seam lead coated roof system offers durability and function.

Togo Canopy

This was our first job out of the United States. We had the opportunity and privilege to work with a local Company, BAK Transaction LLC, Mr. Amah. These two buildings complete with a full set of alum bleachers built in place was for a government event. It was for there 50th year celebration of there Independence from the French. And the two canopies were to provide seating and shade for the Presidents special invited guest. Don Hartman personally traveled to Togo to over see the erection of this project along with a team of 9 men from the area to do the steel erection and the over site of the bleacher installation. Once on site, we had the opportunity to train and work along side of the local labors that were provided by another one of the local General Contractors. The local help was very eager to help, and were quick learners.

DRHCI would like to give special thanks to the following companies: Corle Building Systems / Frank Kmetz, T.J. Distributors / Jason Dinan, Precision Installations, Inc. / David Brownson, Taft Construction / Tim Fadorsen, and World Cargo / Gary Schwartz. It took us 23 days to complete the project once we arrived in Togo.

McKenny Great Room

This project was one of our fist Great Rooms. Approx. size was 25' x 30' with vaulted ceiling. Also, we created a seasonal room with open screens on all walls, with connecting deck leading to a flag stone patio. We removed a large section of wall to create the pass through with a step down into the great room. Finishes included new Oak Hardwood flooring through out, with crown molding and structural columns to accent the opening.

Roberts Great Room / 2 Story Addition / Deck and Bath

This project was another great room, 20' x 20' with a 12/12 pitched vaulted ceiling. Gas fire place in the gable end, with full arch. stone to accent the area. We also created an over look from a second floor bedroom that became an office for the customer. Also, we added a 2 car garage 20' x 35' on the side of the home, with a full size master bedroom on the second level. Which included a walk in closet, full bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and walk in shower. I the back of the garage we added a Mud room with a pet wash area. We added a covered front porch, with Stone facade, and moved the entry drive way to the opposite side of the property. This was one of our nicer projects and the customer was a joy to work with.

Northwest Golf Course Steel Building

This was one of our first Pre-Engineered all Steel Buildings. 40' x 80' with 14' side walls. 4 over head doors, with two man doors. One on each end. This building is used for an equipment storage. Manufacture was Armor Steel.
